“I can’t even remember what it’s like to see.”

Rantanben entered our clinic with a riveting story and a desire to tell it. She is 60 years old and cannot see anything clearly. With tears in her eyes she said, “I can’t even remember what it’s like to see.” She was escorted to our clinic by a neighbor, though she rarely leaves her house unless she’s beside one of her two granddaughters.

The children grab her wise hands and guide her through the neighborhood – but only during daylight hours. She lives in her ancestral home and is hellbent on living there for the rest of her life. She said she is incredibly grateful for our clinic and continuously mouthed the words “thank you” in Gujarati. After being examined by the doctors, it was found that Rantanben had cataracts and needed surgical help. Luckily, we had a referral station onsite with doctors from the hospital, meaning that we were able to get her an appointment scheduled quickly – getting her on track to seeing clearly soon!
