Creative Ways To Support OneSight

Back to News

We’ve been so fortunate to have amazing donors that believe in the power of clear sight and are eager to help us grow closer in our goal to #HelpTheWorldSee. When it comes to supporting OneSight, some have gotten extra creative in their approach. Many people have gone above and beyond for our cause over the years — using their own unique ideas and passions to fuel their fundraisers. Here are just a few of the creative ways people have supported OneSight in years past:

ALL OAR NOTHING

Lewis Matthews, Charlie Medwin and Chris Slack will embark on an unassisted row across the Atlantic Ocean as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, in support of four incredible charities. Their team, All Oar Nothing, has been preparing for this event for years and is hopeful to be the first to cross the finish line. The challenge is an extremely difficult one – with more people having climbed Mt. Everest or travelled into space than have successfully navigated the 3,000 nautical miles from La Gomera, off the coast of Africa, to English Harbour, Antigua. Lewis Matthews selected OneSight as his charity of choice, understanding the importance of clear sight having lived with a prescription of -10.00.

SUDS FOR SIGHT

In celebration of National Sunglass Day, Luxottica hosted a car wash benefiting OneSight. The event was staffed by OneSight volunteers and called upon employees from both Luxottica and OneSight’s offices to make a donation in return for a car wash. The one-day fundraiser was a huge success, raising over, $2,200 funds for clear sight!

TASTE OF CINCINNATI

One couldn’t really have a “taste” of Cincinnati without sampling one of the many local brews the Queen City has to offer – and this year, OneSight volunteers came together to staff beer tents at the Taste of Cincinnati event in Downtown Cincinnati. OneSight benefited from a portion of the proceeds, raising $1,173 from local donors.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

Mirella Battista, an EyeMed Employee, hosted an all-day volleyball tournament in support of OneSight in Cincinnati, OH. She was able to recruit a whopping 80 players for the tourney, raising over $2,400 in funds. That’s enough for us to provide 240 individuals with clear sight — both on and off the court.

CYCLE FOR SIGHT – Alicia Baron

Luxottica employee and long time OneSight supporter, Alicia Baron, used her work as a cycle instructor at Crunch Fitness to help raise awareness and funds for our cause. On August 17, she held a charity class full of 30 participants. Each participant was asked to give a monetary donation to her My OneSight page in exchange for the class. Before the ride started, she gave an overview of OneSight and explained why the cause is so important to her. In addition to teaching the class, Alicia raffled off a pair of RayBan and Prada sunglasses purchased from OneSight’s Sale for Sight event. In the end, she was able to raise $755 for OneSight’s Nepal clinic. Way to go, Alicia!

UK TRIVIA NIGHT

Who doesn’t love a good game of trivia? OneSight supporter, Dan Brown gathered friends and family for a night of games and grilling in the UK. Winners walked away with prizes, and OneSight walked away with over £1000 to help serve people in need.

COOK4GOOD

Luxottica’s Milan team hosted a Cook4Good night. The event featured an incredible chef, whom taught attendees how to make a gourmet meal from scratch. Participants helped raise $1,600 for OneSight and not only got to cook for a great cause, but also were able to enjoy the delicious final product. Talk about having your cake and eating it too!

WORLD SIGHT DAY BOOTH

In honor of World Sight Day this year, OneSight partnered with Luxottica to host a Fall Food Truck & Artisanal Vendor Event at Luxottica’s US Headquarters in Mason, OH. We raffled off some great Luxottica and OneSight swag bags in addition to hosting an auction to fundraise for OneSight. The event helped raise $2,290 – enough to provide 229 people who lack access to vision care with a pair of prescription glasses.

AXE THROWING FOR A CAUSE

OneSight supporter and volunteer, Erin Stratton, gathered her friends in Austin, TX for an axe throwing event in support of OneSight. The group had so much fun, and was able to raise enough funds to provide 50 eye exams and pairs of glasses. Way to get creative and have fun with it, Erin!

We love seeing all the personality that goes into each individual’s OneSight fundraiser – but hero-ing our cause doesn’t require a big event or a hefty fundraising goal. All it requires is a person who wants to change the lives of others with the power of clear sight. Interested in making an impact? Explore some of the many different ways you can support OneSight.
