CHIARA
ANTONIAZZI

serving Zambia

OneSight is one of the best gifts I’ve received in my life. There are so many great memories and experiences to remember, but one of my favorites was volunteering in Zambia. A five-year-old girl came to me for her frames. She had a completely blind eye, she was very shy and her shoes were quite broken. I gave her a soft penguin toy that I bought the evening before. She grabbed it and smiled. We started playing with him and I took its arms and put them on her neck embracing her. She was in love with him. I like to imagine that he is still her friend smiling with her every day.

3,000,000

more people worldwide with access to vision care
— who can live better because they see better

that’s

8,219

individuals who received access to clear sight
each day of this year, on average

including

1,300,000

children who now have 2x the opportunity
to succeed in school

and more than

1,000,000

adults who can find a better job
and earn up to 20% more annually

they live in more than

16

countries across the globe

and now have access to

18

new sustainable vision centers

and every

1

of them matters

2016 marks the year every person in The Gambia gained access to vision care with the completion of the seventh and final sustainable vision center. While there is still significant progress to be made in ending the global vision care crisis, this benchmark proves we're well on our way.
